Sophie Farthing (she/her) is a queer poet and artist based in Columbia, South Carolina. A proud native of the Carolinas, she explores the minutiae of Southern religion, domestic abuse, and queer domesticity. Her poetry has recently appeared in outlets including Right Hand Pointing, Impossible Archetype, Anti-Heroin Chic, and Oyster River Pages. Her artwork in miniatures has been featured in orangepeel Magazine. Her current multidisciplinary project, “In My Father’s House,” will be exhibited on October 19th during Columbia’s Famously Hot Pride Festival in the Queerfish Exhibition at the Columbia Museum of Art.*

Sophie is the 2024 winner of the Elizabeth Boatwright Coker Fellowship in Poetry from the South Carolina Academy of Authors. She is also a 2024 recipient of the SC Arts Commission’s Emerging Artist Grant, which is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts. Her art incorporates miniatures, fiber arts, and found objects to explore queer nesting practices, and both her art and her poetry connect viewers and readers to the rich heritage and the stark cruelties of religion in the American South.
